KEEP OUR RIVER CLEAN EVENT
I’d like to extend a big thanks to everyone who join us yesterday for our river clean up session. We got another big haul in a short space of time covering the area between Woodbridge and Maylands. The main items pulled out this time consisted of plastic and glass bottles, cans, food packets, take away cups and lots of the usual miscellaneous items such as shoes, pieces of polystyrene foam, clothing items, cigarette butts and chairs! Fishing line was pulled out with big hooks still attached and a bag of fertilizer – appalling.
So – it’s better out than in but it’s still always an eye opener. Next time we could do with lots of walkers to tackle the tracks along the river foreshore particularly on the Ascot/ Guildford side where individuals are leaving their party gear behind – beer bottles etc. This stuff eventually ends up in the river and is just simply horrible to see.
It was also great to have Natasha from the Bassendean Preservation Group join us and explain the important work they do to protect and preserve our reserves and wetlands. For anyone wanting to get involved as a volunteer get in touch via the FB link by clicking here.
Also a big shout out to Ari from the Town of Bassendean who also joined us on the SUPS and took the massive amount of rubbish to the Depo as you can see below!
